“BioDiesel will void my warranty.” - Many companies warrant their diesel engines for use with biodiesel only to a point, such as a 20% blend. But they are prohibited by the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act from voiding a warranty because a customer exceeds their stipulations: unless they can prove that a higher blend of BioDiesel directly caused a failure. By the same logic they can also void a warranty if a bad tank of regular diesel fuel directly causes a failure.

- A dedicated 110V outlet with 15 amp service. Uses an average of 25 kWh per 50 gallon batch.
- 50 gallons of waste oil or fresh vegetable oil. Feedstock needs to be clean and water free.
- 10 gallons of methanol, from a fuel distributor or auto racing shop; typically $3.00 per gallon.
- 190 mL, less than a cup, of sulfuric acid (available in pre-packaged amounts).
- 3 lbs of lye (sodium hydroxide) or 5 lbs of caustic potash (potassium hydroxide) - (both available in pre-packaged amounts).
- 55 gallon water vessel or drum.
